Stupid fucking Congress passed the retroactive telecom immunity. Every single person who voted for that deserves to be impeached for failing to fulfill their oath of office -- to uphold the Constitution of the United States.

My look who voted yea...

Really disappointed in this but not surprised. If they didn't let the telecom companies off the hook, they were never going to get any future support or cooperation out of them

Here's the voting record from the Senate

http://blog.washingtonpost.com/the-trail/2008/06/20/obama_supports_fisa_legislatio.html

Obama voted yes and Clinton voted no. Couple that with his support of faith based initiatives - just saying

I'm pleased to see that both NJ senators, Menendez and Lautenburg, voted nay. Not that I think either of them are saints, but I've e-mailed both of them in the past about issues that I feel strongly about. They've always come down on my side. As a bonus, they're staff also sends out responses to the e-mails - form letters for sure, but I've known other politicians not to respond at all.

It's sick & wrong & I know that someday we will be seen as the right side to be on but it sucks to have to live through this crap.

I'm probably opening a big bag of sh*t by writing this, but...

I was fully against this bill till a friend pointed something out to me: the telecom companies really didn't have much choice in the matter. They were ordered to release those records by the government. The people that need to stand accountable are those who ordered the release, not the companies who followed government orders.

I don't support warrantless wiretapping or the release of telecom records, but when you're ordered to do something by an agent of the government, what choice do you have?

They had the same choice that Qwest made go tell the Government to take a hike or get a warrant.

And for that matter, they should have alerted the rest of the populous that the US Government was trying to break the law.

Also, for those who cry "9/11", realize the tapping started in *February* of 2001, at least 6 months *before* 9/11.
