Newbery Recipients. If you are looking for some good Young Adult fiction, you could do far worse than picking up an award winning title off this list. I've only read half a dozen or so myself, so there's plenty more for me to mine.

Technically, the Newbery is for Children's Lit - if you want a great YA award, check out the Printz Award, http://www.ala.org/yalsa/printz

I stand corrected! Thank you. I was unaware of the Printz Award, which looks to have only been established in 2000. The Newbery I remember from grammar school :-)

When I started volunteering at Wren, I set a goal for myself - to read all of the Newbery Award winners. I'm not working there any more, but it's still a goal of mine. :)

I like Young Adult. I even have recommendations not on those lists.

Check out books by Diana Wynne Jones (REALLY check her out, she is ruddy marvelous, and I was horribly depressed when she died last year), Diane Duane (not as good as Jones, but that's a very, very high bar), Alan Garner (one of my early introductions to fantasy, and still one of the very, very best), and Sarah Rees Brennan. Sarah has an LJ where she posts (among other things) reviews of other Young Adult writers.
