Time travel survey
Aug. 6th, 2008 07:22 pmSurvey time! I have a few time-travel scenarios running through my head. They are just-for-fun thought experiments, but I thought I would share them with you all in the form of polls. I have 4 in mind, but I'll start with two today to keep things simple.
Scenario 1. You are to be exiled back in time! You can only take what you have on you and objects (no people) within easy reach; say anything you can grab in under 60 seconds.
Due to the laws of time, you will not be able to significantly change history, so things like shooting Hitler in 1939 are right out. Also, due to the laws of time and uniqueness of souls, you cannot co-exist with yourself, so you have to pick a time before your own birth, and you will not be able to live past your own birth.
Other than that, you can pick anywhere on Earth, anytime before your birth.
So:

Scenario 2. You are being exiled back in time! But in this scenario, you *can* change history. Plus, you have two weeks to prepare, and you can take pretty much as much stuff -- & people! -- back with you as you want. For practical purposes, let's say up to a 10-mile radius, so if you want to take all of Manhattan (including inhabitants) back with you, you can. No restriction on co-existing with yourself, either.
So:

Feel free to expand on things in the comments. I'll post scenarios 3 & 4 on Friday.
